1Abstract

We make every song over many rounds with an AI music app. In each round we write what we want to hear, the app plays back what it made, and we listen. Then we change the words or the settings and try again. When one version is right, we master it for streaming. This song took 7 rounds and 11 renders over about 10 hours. A render is one full version of the song the app plays back, and one round can return more than one. The charts below call each round a submission, one for every time we sent the app a prompt. We wrote the style prompt, which describes the sound, 3 ways and the lyrics 6 ways before we kept one render.

The song was made in Suno v5. The delivered master measures −17.93 LUFS integrated. Its true peak is −2.95 dBTP, and every streaming decode measured stays under the −0.50 dBTP ceiling. Loudness range is 11.4 LU.

Date read from: Suno's record for clip d43d54cc, created 2026-02-08 01:30 UTC.

Final renderClip d43d54cc. Suno's join of clips 68fcfd80 and 0f9b44b1, titled "Life is Strange (Unmastered)", created 2026-02-08 01:30 UTC, 303.72 s. The raw export of this clip carries its id in the embedded Suno comment and is 14,578,560 samples at 48 kHz, 303.72 s, the same length as the clip to the sample; the 2026-09-16 chain script reads that file. The delivered master does not descend from it. It descends from v4, which the match script describes as a stems re-remix (not verified: its correlation with the sum of the stem files is 0.854 and with the raw mix 0.986). v4 is 14,578,559 samples, the same length as the stem files on disk; our records do not say which stem set it used or how it was mixed. 5Mastering

MasteringThin Veil Records' proprietary mastering process, run on our own machine by an AI agent. The process is model-agnostic; any capable language model can run it. For the album stages every value was measured by script; how v4 was made is not on record. Approved by ear before release.
Mastered on2026-10-02
BriefThe version that was mastered is v4, which the match script describes as a stems re-remix (not verified; see the chain), not the 2026-09-16 chain output from the raw export. The chain for the raw export ran on a prelude brief: master it for sound, hold its intentional level offset below the album, no dynamics work (limiter reduction measured 0.00 dB), and it reproduces its own output exactly, but that output is not in this master's lineage. The album stages then took the bass-treated v4 through balancing, a head and tail match to the earlier master and the release trim. Originally released with an earlier master. The earlier version of this master, built in spring 2026, carried processing aimed at AI-detection models: per-stem phase reconstruction on every stem, in a heavier two-pass form with added magnitude jitter on some of them (the stems Suno labeled Lead Vocals and Other), an AAC round trip on each stem, a noise bed at 8 to 16 kHz on those same stems (the build script adds it; the August 2026 measurements did not show the bed in the final master), and a reference match to a commercial track. Our build record does not fully reconstruct the shipped chain. That work ended on 2026-08-14. This version does not start from the earlier master; it starts from v4, and how v4 was made is not on record. Replaced by Audio Swap on 2026-10-02. When checked on 2026-10-30, Apple's and Spotify's previews matched this master.
Figure 3. Codec safety. True peak in dBTP of the delivered file, against the label's file ceiling of −1.00 dBTP, and of each streaming codec's round trip, against the decode ceiling of −0.50 dBTP (the colored lines). 4 of 4 measurements clear their ceiling.

Figure 4. Signal chain, in processing order, as applied to the final render.
  1. The master starts from a file held as 'v4', which the match script describes as a stems re-remix. That is not verified: v4 correlates 0.854 with the sum of the Suno stem files on disk and 0.986 with the raw mix. No script or report for building v4 was found on disk, and our records do not say how it was mixed. The copy used is held in a folder named as recovered from a Time Machine snapshot of 2026-09-29; the file's modified time is 2026-09-17 18:06. It is 14,578,559 samples, the same length as the stem files on disk.
  2. Bass treatment (a function in the match script, called 'meet in the middle' in its notes): 2nd-order Butterworth high-pass at 35 Hz and a low shelf of -4 dB at 80 Hz (S 0.7), applied zero-phase. The call that wrote the next file was not saved as a script, but the function applied to v4 reproduces that file to within 32-bit float rounding (largest difference 3e-8 of full scale).
  3. Album balancing, 2026-10-01 (script): one clean linear gain of +1.71 dB on the bass-treated file, zero-phase, TPDF dither to 24-bit. The gain wanted was +1.90 dB, to bring the body back toward -16.29 LUFS-I (its level before the bass cut); the -1.0 dBTP true-peak ceiling held it to +1.71 dB. LUFS-I -17.78 to -16.06, true peak -2.72 to -1.01 dBTP.
  4. Head and tail matched to the earlier master, 2026-10-01 (script): the file was aligned to the earlier master by a median lag of 42.2 ms and set to its sample count, then the earlier master's music-band envelope (100 Hz to 1.5 kHz, 50 ms windows every 5 ms), relative to its body, was imposed on the first and last 20 s (full authority to 20 s, raised-cosine ramp over the next 2 s). Gains were limited to -60 dB and +24 dB, boosts were capped so no local peak rose above 0.3 dB under the source's true peak, and digital silence was kept in the first and last 3 s where the earlier master's music band is below -100 dBFS. Quantized to 24-bit by rounding, first and last sample zero.
  5. Fine touch-up after the match, 2026-10-01 (script): the match's gain smoothing dipped 3 to 11 dB for about 100 ms before the bass entry at 1.40 s. A fine-resolution gain ride over 1.25 to 1.52 s removed the dip. Samples change only between 1.250 and 1.520 s; LUFS-I and true peak unchanged.
  6. Release trim, 2026-10-02 (script): one clean linear gain of -1.75 dB on every track of the album (measured -1.750 dB), TPDF dither to 24-bit, first and last sample zero. LUFS-I -16.18 to -17.93, true peak -1.20 to -2.95 dBTP. Every streaming decode of the finished file is at or under -0.5 dBTP.
  7. Delivery, 2026-10-02 (script): written as a 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV with industry INFO tags and a bext chunk and no encoder signature. The audio is bit-exact with the trimmed file, and the delivered file is the one measured here. Re-running the balancing, match, refine and trim scripts on 2026-10-30 reproduced the trimmed files sample for sample.
Table 1. Mastering decisions: each move, what it rests on, and its cost.
MoveBecauseTradeoff
Master built from v4 (described in the match script as a stems re-remix; not verified), not from the 2026-09-16 chain output from the raw export. The match script names v4 as the source for this track. Our records do not give the reason for the choice.
Bass treatment: high-pass at 35 Hz and low shelf of -4 dB at 80 Hz.The script calls it a 'meet in the middle' sub reduction. The balancing script's notes say the input 'carries' a bass cut with no make-up, and a listening note asked that the bass at the start of Costumes match the end of this track. The cut removes level: -17.78 LUFS-I afterward, which the balancing gain partly restored.
Album balancing: +1.71 dB make-up after the bass treatment.Make-up for the level the bass cut removed: restore the body toward -16.29 LUFS-I (its level before the cut), capped at -1.0 dBTP, which keeps the track about 6 LU under Costumes.+1.90 dB was wanted and +1.71 dB applied, because the true-peak ceiling held it.
Level held well under the rest of the album. The track is a deliberate prelude. The chain script for the raw export and the balancing script both keep its level offset below the album on purpose. It is the quietest track on the album: -17.93 LUFS-I delivered, 5.05 LU under Costumes.
