I watched a man get fired
for guarding a warhead
They called him back on Thursday
Nobody laughed

My kid asked the machine
what happens when you die
It gave a better answer
than I ever could

I got the promotion
and sat in the parking lot
for forty minutes
feeling nothing

The news says everything is fine
The news says everything is ending
Both at the same time
on the same screen

I can't sleep but I'm not awake

There's a hum in the house
that wasn't there last year
Not the refrigerator
Not the wiring
Something underneath

I keep almost remembering something
that I've never known
Like a word on the tip of
a tongue I'm not sure is mine

The ground is moving
Everyone feels it
Nobody says it

Life is strange
Not broken
Not ending
Strange
Like waking up inside a dream
that doesn't know
it's dreaming yet
