1Abstract
We make every song over many rounds with an AI music app. In each round we write what we want to hear, the app plays back what it made, and we listen. Then we change the words or the settings and try again. When one version is right, we master it for streaming. This song took 21 rounds and 42 renders over 2 days. A render is one full version of the song the app plays back, and one round can return more than one. The charts below call each round a submission, one for every time we sent the app a prompt. We wrote the style prompt, which describes the sound, 15 ways and the lyrics 17 ways before we kept one render.
The song was made in Suno v5.5. The delivered master measures −12.00 LUFS integrated. Its true peak is −2.23 dBTP, and every streaming decode measured stays under the −0.50 dBTP ceiling. Loudness range is 8.1 LU.

Dark soft indie pop with light indian influences and horror score, One single close dry male voice never doubled, Singing bowls and warm low strings rising in the choruses, distant music box beneath the verses, soft piano chords, 78 BPM half-time, wide negative space, Intimate and cinematic, Chant is one solo voice only no other voices join, No vocal harmonies, no choir, no stacked vocals, no additional voices, no electric guitars, no rock drums, no belting, heartfelt

[Instrumental Intro - Low Drone, Two-Note Pendulum, Soft Heartbeat] [...] [Faint Music Box, Far Away, Half Remembered] [Verse 1] There's an argument in my head, been there since I was small: what I should do and what I shouldn't, and I took it for wisdom. Be good now, it says, and you get to live later. But I've been playing that game my whole life. [Chorus - Solo Voice, Dissonant String Swells, Quiet Defiance] And now, I'm done paying into a later no one's ever seen. When the voice turns up, my voice is louder. Today is mine, I'm reclaiming it while I've still got the breath to say it, because nobody ever got out of dying by being good, and I'm dying either way. [Instrumental Interlude] [...] [Soft Verse 2 - Slower Than Verse 1, More Space] I've already tasted something like heaven, and I've done my time in hell, and both of them were here, while I was still breathing. So I can't tell what all this being holy is supposed to be buying. [Chorus - Solo Voice, Dissonant String Swells, Quiet Defiance] So I'm done paying into a later no one's ever seen. When the voice turns up, my voice is louder. Today is mine, I'm reclaiming it while I've still got the breath to say it, because nobody ever got out of dying by being good, and I'm dying either way. [Bowed Strings, Sparse, Over Drone and Heartbeat] [...] [Bridge] Tonight I can hear the argument bubbling a scared kid afraid of dying, still sure that being good will make me the exception, but every promise it ever made came down to the same two words: [Bed Strips to Bare Pendulum] [...] [Breathy, Bare, Calm] don't die. [Silence, Then Drone Returns Low] […] [Bridge] There are no exceptions, and nobody living knows what follows, and the voice knows least of all. The argument will be back tomorrow, it's had a lifetime of practice, but it doesn't get to call itself me anymore, [Breathy, Dry] and tonight that's enough. [Final Statement - Solo Voice Forward, Bed Rising] I'm dying either way, and I'm doing it on my own terms, my way, my life, no longer one of the living dead. [Everything Falls Away to Bare Drone] [...] [Chant - Solo Voice Only Over Drone, Slow] I am alive. I am alive. I am here. I am free. I am alive. I am mine. [...] [Chant - Solo Voice Only, Stripped Bare, Drone Only, No Tempo] I am alive. [...] [Outro - The Two Pendulum Notes Settle Into One Still Root Note] [Chant - Solo Voice Only, Bare, Room Air] I am. [End]

Dark cinematic soft pop with an alt rock backbone over a low meditation drone, Close, dry male vocal up front, sung-spoken verses with quiet bite building to soaring declarative choruses, earnest nineties alt rock conviction inside a hushed modern production, Warm low synth drone holding the root all song, singing bowls, low bells, and handpan play the riffs instead of guitars, 82 BPM, straight feel: felt piano pulse, brushed percussion, sparse and insistent, dark stillness inside the beauty, Modal minor harmony, two or three chords, no big cadences, tension that settles without resolving, Choruses lift by texture only: stacked male harmonies and bowl swells, never louder drums; harmonies sustain underneath, never doubling the lead, which stays intelligible and forward, The bridge builds by repetition and pressure, not tempo, Ends on a bare repeated incantation over the exposed drone, unresolved, no fade out
[Instrumental Intro] [...] [Male Vocal] [Verse 1 - Sung-Spoken, Quiet] Black suit, third row, your face on an easel, same year on your program as the one on my license. They're saying you never missed a Monday in thirty years, never raised your voice, never rocked the boat, kept every promise to people you never met. And the whole room is nodding along, like being good was gonna get you out of this. [Chorus - Soaring] You did everything right, and it came for you anyway. Kept every rule like religion, and it came for you anyway. All that good didn't buy you one more morning. All that safe never saved anybody yet. It came for you anyway. [Verse 2 - Sung-Spoken, Quiet] In the parking lot the phones come out before the engines start, somebody's laughing at a text, somebody says "so, anyway," and everybody drives back to the same desks a little faster. And I catch my own mind running for the pile: the title on my door, the pew with my name on it, some building with a plaque, somebody's memory of me, stacking anything that looks like it might last between my body and the dirt. [Chorus - Soaring] You did everything right, and it came for you anyway. Kept every rule like religion, and it came for you anyway. All that good didn't buy you one more morning. All that safe never saved anybody yet. It came for you anyway. [Bridge - Low, Building] I know why I keep my head down. There's a voice below the floor of me, old as the blood, quiet as a lock: step out of line and you're alone, and alone, nobody remembers you, and if nobody remembers you, you were never here. [Bridge - Peak, Gritted] So I've been good. God, I've been so good. And that voice has been driving my whole life with my hands on the wheel. [Final - Half-Spoken, Bare Drone] So here's what followed me home from your funeral, and it will not lie down: I'm going to die, and no good behavior gets me out of it, and the only thing still up for grabs is whether I live before I do. Or do I go to my grave the way they'll swear you went to yours, playing forever by somebody else's rules, never having been here. [...] [Refrain - Bare] Never having been here. [...] [Refrain - Bare] Never having been here. [...] [Refrain - Bare] Never having been here. [...] [End]

- +[Instrumental Intro - Low Drone, Two-Note Pendulum Begins, Soft Heartbeat] [...] [Faint Music Box, Far Away, Half Remembered] [...]
- +[Male Vocal] [Soft Verse 1 - Sung-Spoken, Close, Almost Beatless] There's an argument in my head, and it's been running since I was small, what I should do, what I shouldn't, what a good person would, and I always took it for conscience, I took it for wisdom, and it promises the same thing every time I obey: be good now, and you get to live later. I've been paying into later my whole life.
- +[Chorus - Rising Male Harmony Stacks, Slow Cello Swell, Quiet Defiance] So I'm done paying into a later no one's ever seen, I'm taking today back from the should and the shouldn't, and when the argument starts up, it finds me living, and I'm saying what I mean while I've still got the breath to say it, because nobody ever got out of dying by being good, and I'm dying either way.
- +[Instrumental Interlude - Pendulum and Heartbeat Only, Harmonies Fall Away] [...]
- +[Soft Verse 2 - Slower Than Verse 1, More Space] And here's the strange part: I've already tasted something like heaven, some afternoons so whole I wouldn't trade them for the promised one, and I've done my time in something like hell, whole years so scared of getting it wrong that nothing ever got lived, and both of them were here, while I was still breathing. So I can't tell what all this being careful is supposed to be buying.
- +[Handpan Solo - Sparse, Over Drone and Heartbeat, Music Box Answers Once] [...] [...]
- +[Bridge - The Revelation, Bite in the Consonants, Bed Darkens] Tonight I can hear it underneath all the should and shouldn't, a scared kid reciting rules from the year I learned that people die, still sure that being good will make me the exception, and every should it's ever handed me comes down to the same two words:
- +[Bed Strips to Bare Pendulum] [...]
- +[Spoken Word, Male, Calm] don't die.
- +[Silence, Then Drone Returns Low] [...]
- +[Male Vocal] [Bridge - Building Back, Voice Forward] But there are no exceptions, and nobody living knows what follows, and the voice knows least of all. The argument will be back tomorrow, it's had a lifetime of practice, but it doesn't get to call itself wisdom anymore,
- −[Refrain - Bare] Never having been here.
- +[Half-Spoken, Dry] and tonight that's enough.
- +[Instrumental - Everything Falls Away to Bare Drone] [...]

- +I've already tasted something like heaven,
- +some afternoons so whole I wouldn't trade them for the promised one,
- +and I've done my time in something like hell,
- +whole years so scared of getting it wrong that nothing ever got lived,
- +and both of them were here, while I was still breathing.
- +So I can't tell what all this being holy is supposed to be buying.
- +[Chorus - Solo Voice, Slow Cello and Bowl Swells, Quiet Defiance]
- +So I'm done paying into a later no one's ever seen.
- +When the noise turns up, my voice is louder.
- +Today is mine, I'm reclaiming it while I've still got the breath to say it,
- +because nobody ever got out of dying by being good,
- +and I'm dying either way.
- −[...]
- −[Bridge - The Revelation, Bite in the Consonants, Bed Darkens] Tonight I can hear it underneath all the should and shouldn't, a scared kid reciting rules from the year I learned that people die, still sure that being good will make me the exception, and every should it's ever handed me comes down to the same two words:

- −[Breathy, Dry] and tonight that's enough.
- −[Final Statement - Solo Voice Forward, Bed Rising] I'm dying either way, and I'm going to do it on my terms, my way, my life, no longer one of the living dead.

A dark meditation drone that thinks: two low notes rocking slowly back and forth like an argument, tanpura warmth over a soft felt heartbeat thump at resting pulse, One single close dry male voice, never doubled, conversational and confessional verses, almost beatless, wide negative space, Handpan and low singing bowls trade the two-note pendulum instead of guitars, a faint faraway music box glints beneath the verses, 78 BPM, half-time feel, unhurried, Modal minor harmony, no cadences, tension that settles without resolving, Choruses lift by texture only: slow cello and bowl swells rising over the unmoved drone, never louder drums, At the drop the bed strips naked to the bare pendulum in silence, Closing chant: each repeat slower and longer, then the two rocking notes settle into one still root note under the final bare voice, ending in room air, no fade out, No vocal harmonies, no choir, no stacked vocals, no electric guitars, no rock drums, no belting
[Instrumental Intro - Low Drone, Two-Note Pendulum, Soft Heartbeat] [...] [Faint Music Box, Far Away, Half Remembered] [Male Vocal] [Soft Verse 1 - Intimate, Close, Almost Beatless] There's an argument in my head. It's been running since I was small: what I should do, what I shouldn't, and I took it for wisdom. It makes the same promise every time: be good now, and you get to live later. But I've been paying into later my whole life. [Chorus - Solo Voice, Slow Cello and Bowl Swells, Quiet Defiance] Now, I'm done paying into a later no one's ever seen. When the noise turns up, my voice is louder. Today is mine, I'm reclaiming it while I've still got the breath to say it, because nobody ever got out of dying by being good, and I'm dying either way. [Everything Falls Away to Bare Drone] [...] [Chant - Solo Voice Only Over Drone, Slow] I am alive. I am alive. [Chant - Solo Voice Only, Strings Swell, Slower] I am here. I am free. Dark and beautiful, tanpura drone and felt heartbeat pulse, One single close dry male voice never doubled, Singing bowls and low strings rising in the choruses, distant music box beneath the verses, half-time, wide negative space, almost beatless, Intimate and unsettling but warm
[Instrumental Intro - Low Drone, Two-Note Pendulum, Soft Heartbeat] [...] [Faint Music Box, Far Away, Half Remembered] [Male Vocal] [Soft Verse 1 - Intimate, Close, Almost Beatless] There's an argument in my head, been there since I was small: what I should do and what I shouldn't, and I took it for wisdom. Be good now, it says, and you get to live later. But I've been paying into later my whole life. [Chorus - Solo Voice, Dissonant String Swells, Quiet Defiance] Now, I'm done paying into a later no one's ever seen. [Bowed Strings, Sparse, Over Drone and Heartbeat] [...] [Bridge - The Revelation, Bite in the Consonants, Bed Darkens] Tonight I can hear it, the argument bubbling a scared kid afraid of dying and being dead, still sure that being good will make me the exception, and every should it's ever handed me comes down to the same two words: [Bed Strips to Bare Pendulum] [...] [Breathy, Bare, Calm] don't die. [Silence, Then Drone Returns Low] [Bridge] But there are no exceptions, and nobody living knows what follows, and the voice knows least of all. The argument will be back tomorrow, it's had a lifetime of practice, but it doesn't get to call itself me anymore, [Breathy, Dry] and tonight that's enough. 5Mastering
| Mastering | Thin Veil Records' proprietary mastering process, run on our own machine by an AI agent. The process is model-agnostic; any capable language model can run it. Every value measured by script. Approved by ear before release. |
|---|---|
| Mastered on | 2026-10-21 |
| Brief | First pass open: no target, no reference, no history. One clean gain then set the catalog level of -12 LUFS, with every streaming decode at or under -0.5 dBTP. Revision 2, after listening, lowered the climax 2 dB. Every value measured by script; final approval by ear. |

- Dynamic high shelf at 6.5 kHz, active on loud, low-brightness passages only. Gain up to +2.5 dB, mean 0.61 dB.
- Start: a 0.2 ms blip before the first note muted to the dither floor (plus or minus 1 LSB). The fade-in ends before the note.
- After listening: from 3:16 to the end lowered 2.0 dB, ramped over 1 s in a near-silent gap.
- End: 450 ms fade. The source file ended mid-decay.
- One static gain to -12.00 LUFS integrated.
- TPDF dither to 24-bit, re-applied after the gain and at the release step.
| Move | Because | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| No compression, limiting, clipping or saturation. | The final section was already limited in the source, with no headroom. The dynamic arc was kept as arranged. | |
| High shelf on loud, low-brightness passages only. | Level at 6 to 14 kHz relative to 1 to 4 kHz measured -3 to -9 dB in the verses and -19 to -24 dB in the final section. The engineer read this as generation loss, not arrangement. This is an inference from measurement; the engineer does not listen. | Also raises residual codec texture at 12 to 18 kHz in those passages. |
| No high-pass filter. | In test, an 18 Hz high-pass raised true peak from -3.07 to -1.58 dBTP while removing content 41 dB below the total. | |
| Climax lowered 2.0 dB from 3:16. | Listening check: the climax was judged overcharged. Result: the climax sits 5.2 LU above the verses, down from 7.2 LU. |
| Dynamic arc, vocal and verse level. |
| Low-mid energy near 157 Hz. |
