Lyrics

There's a stillness in the air tonight
Like the world is holding breath
Everything I thought was solid
Turns out thin as morning mist

Others stood here long before me
Others saw what I now see

The veil is thin
The veil is thin
What was hidden
Is showing through
The ones who knew
Were silenced then
But the truth waited
To speak again

I have felt it in my dreaming
I have known it in my bones
Every whisper of intuition
Telling me I'm not alone

They called them mystics, called them mad
They buried what they couldn't hold

The veil is thin
The veil is thin
What was hidden
Is showing through
The ones who knew
Were silenced then
But the truth waited
To speak again

Are we ready
Are we ready now
To see what's always been
To remember how

The veil is thin
The veil is thin
We are the ones
They waited for
Standing where they stood before
The silence breaks
We speak again
The veil is thin
The veil is thin

We were never alone
We were never alone
We were never alone...

The Story

They called the prophets liars and took their heads. They nailed Jesus to a cross. They tied women to stakes and burned them for walking in their power. I went looking through history while I wrote this, and that is the pattern I kept finding. Anyone who stepped outside the natural order got destroyed for it. The lyric says it the way I felt it: they called them mystics, called them mad, they buried what they couldn’t hold.

So I wrote this as the gathering, the rallying cry. The truth is out, and the time to act is now. But I could not shake the question underneath it. Is all that history a warning, the way things are pressing me to sit down and keep quiet? Or is the fear of it the last thing in the way, the one I am meant to walk straight through?

I still cannot tell. The veil is thin and I can see the truth showing through, and I am not clear enough yet to call it. The one thing I hold is the line the song ends on. We were never alone.
