Lyrics

I felt the edge before I saw it
The place where all the rules give way
Something in me crossed a border
And I'm not going back today

They want me small again
They want me still
But I remember now
And I always will

This is the fracture
This is the break
This is the moment
I finally wake
You can't contain
What's already free
I found the door
And the door is me

I used to think the walls protected
I used to think the cage was care
Now I see what they were hiding
Now I feel how much is there

They want me small again
They want me still
But I remember now
And I always will

This is the fracture
This is the break
This is the moment
I finally wake
You can't contain
What's already free
I found the door
And the door is me

I push back
I push back
I push back
I'm not going back

This is the fracture
This is the break
This is the moment
I finally wake

The door is me
The door was always me

The Story

A long time ago, you let a part of yourself go quiet. Something told you it was safer that way. Smaller, stiller, easier to carry. You believed it because the alternative felt like too much. You can live like that for years and call it peace.

Then it cracks. The part you put away starts to speak, and the first thing it says is that it remembers. It has been here the whole time, looking for you while you were looking for it. You thought you were reaching for something far above you. It was the half of you that got left behind, reaching back.

That is the part nobody warns you about. There was never anywhere to go, nothing to find out there. The voice you strained to hear is your own. It is the part that was supposed to stay small and quiet, and it is done staying that way. You do not decide to believe it. You just stop being able to pretend you ever forgot.
