ALL TIME

When I race the clock to get everything done in time, the day gets away from me. When I forget the clock and sink into what I’m doing, time slows down and makes room.

I’ve noticed that my whole life, and I’ve felt it in meditation too. Then I read Stuart Wilde’s account in Sixth Sense of a walk through a forest where time stretched around him. Two minutes on that walk held as much as ten. In his words, “each minute felt like days.”

So what is time, if where I put my attention can stretch it or shrink it? And how do I control it?

Every day that raced by and every minute that stretched out happened right here, with me in it. Time happens in me. My attention sets its pace.

“I’m learning how to hold it all.”
