1Abstract

We make every song over many rounds with an AI music app. In each round we write what we want to hear, the app plays back what it made, and we listen. Then we change the words or the settings and try again. When one version is right, we master it for streaming. This song took 3 rounds and 4 renders. A render is one full version of the song the app plays back, and one round can return more than one. The charts below call each round a submission, one for every time we sent the app a prompt. We wrote the style prompt, which describes the sound, 2 ways and the lyrics 3 ways before we kept one render.

The song was made in Suno v5. The delivered master measures −11.73 LUFS integrated. Its true peak is −3.68 dBTP, and every streaming decode measured stays under the −0.50 dBTP ceiling. Loudness range is 7.7 LU.

[Verse 1]
I've had this conversation before
Not the words
The weight of it

The way you paused
before you said the thing
you were always going to say

And I almost said it with you

[Chorus - lifting, weightless]
Something is trying to get my attention
Using my own life as the language
Something is trying to get my attention
And I'm almost listening

[Instrumental Break]
[Atmospheric - drifting, warm]

[Verse 2]
Tuesday felt like last Tuesday
Not the schedule
The texture

Like wearing a shirt
you don't remember putting on
But it fits perfectly

And you wonder
how long you've been dressed

[Chorus - lifting slightly more]
Something is trying to get my attention
Using my own life as the language
Something is trying to get my attention
And I'm almost listening

[Instrumental Interlude]
[Synthwave - expansive, deep bass, long]

[Verse 3]
I drove through an intersection today
And turning left felt like remembering
And turning right felt like forgetting

I turned left

I don't know why
But something in my chest did

[Bridge]
[Slower, intimate, close]
There's a rhythm underneath my days
I was always moving to it
I just started hearing it

Not a voice
Not a sign
Just the feeling of being recognized
By something I haven't met yet

[Chorus - half-whispered, floating]
Something is trying to get my attention
Using my own life as the language
Something is trying to get my attention
And I'm almost listening

[Whispered Outro]
Almost

[Ambient Outro]
[Instrumental - slow fade, sub bass only]

5Mastering

MasteringThin Veil Records' proprietary mastering process, run on our own machine by an AI agent. The process is model-agnostic; any capable language model can run it. Every value measured by script. Approved by ear before release.
Mastered on2026-10-02
BriefThe brief, as the engineer's report and scripts state it: master from the raw 2-track into the .TJ. lane band (-9.5 +/- 0.5 LUFS-I, true peak at or under -1.0 dBTP), carrying the lane line "for TJ, we want the bass felt and the vocals clear" and the album intent "fusion not selection; big-room and heart-pounding bass is the non-negotiable", with every setting derived from the track's own measurements. The engineer worked from the raw mix; the report says the stems were not used. The dispatch text itself is not on disk. The delivered file is that remaster after album balancing, a head and tail match to the earlier master and one uniform release trim of -1.75 dB. Originally released with an earlier master. The earlier version of this master, built in spring 2026, carried processing aimed at AI-detection models: per-stem phase reconstruction on every stem, an AAC round trip on each stem, and a reference match to a commercial track. Our build record does not fully reconstruct the shipped chain. That work ended on 2026-08-14. This remaster works from the raw Suno mix and carries none of it. Replaced by Audio Swap on 2026-10-02. When checked on 2026-10-30, Apple's and Spotify's previews matched this master.
Figure 2. Codec safety. True peak in dBTP of the delivered file, against the label's file ceiling of −1.00 dBTP, and of each streaming codec's round trip, against the decode ceiling of −0.50 dBTP (the colored lines). 4 of 4 measurements clear their ceiling.

Figure 3. Signal chain, in processing order, as applied to the final render.
  1. Mastering chain, 2026-09-16, run by script on the raw 2-track (48 kHz, 16-bit). Re-running the script on 2026-10-30 reproduced the mastered file sample for sample.
  2. High-pass, 2nd-order Butterworth at 20 Hz, with a clean gain of +5.89 dB.
  3. Peaking filters: +1.5 dB at 82 Hz (Q 1.2), -2.0 dB at 640 Hz (Q 1.8), +1.2 dB at 2800 Hz (Q 0.9).
  4. Low-band saturation below 120 Hz: 4x oversampled asymmetric tanh, drive 0.8, bias 0.08, only the added difference kept.
  5. High shelf at 13500 Hz, +2.5 dB (S 0.7).
  6. Tape-style emphasis saturation: 5 kHz emphasis of +/-4 dB, drive 0.5, asymmetry 0.1, 4x oversampled.
  7. Soft clipper at -2.0 dBFS, 0.5 dB knee, 4x oversampled, residual low-passed at 14 kHz; active for 8.9 s.
  8. True-peak limiter: ceiling -2.0 dBTP, 1.5 ms look-ahead, release 20 dB/s. Gain reduction peaks at 0.86 dB; time above 1 dB of reduction: none.
  9. DC block: zero-phase 2nd-order high-pass at 5 Hz with reflected padding. True-peak safety clip at -1.0 dBTP (4x oversampled, binary-searched): not engaged.
  10. Head: digital zero to 200 ms, then a raised-cosine fade to 600 ms. Tail: 250 ms raised-cosine fade to exact zero from 269.55 s. TPDF dither to 24-bit (seed 20260916), zero where the fade gain is zero.
  11. The file landed at -9.95 LUFS-I.
  12. Album balancing, 2026-10-01 (script): no move; the file passed through unchanged.
  13. Head and tail matched to the earlier master, 2026-10-01 (script): the file was aligned to the earlier master by a median lag of 48.0 ms and set to its sample count, then the earlier master's music-band envelope (100 Hz to 1.5 kHz, 50 ms windows every 5 ms), relative to its body, was imposed on the first and last 20 s (full authority to 20 s, raised-cosine ramp over the next 2 s). Gains were limited to -60 dB and +24 dB, boosts were capped so no local peak rose above 0.3 dB under the source's true peak, and digital silence was kept in the first and last 3 s where the earlier master's music band is below -100 dBFS. Quantized to 24-bit by rounding, first and last sample zero.
  14. Release trim, 2026-10-02 (script): one clean linear gain of -1.75 dB on every track of the album (measured -1.750 dB), TPDF dither to 24-bit, first and last sample zero. LUFS-I -9.98 to -11.73, true peak -1.93 to -3.68 dBTP. Every streaming decode of the finished file is at or under -0.5 dBTP.
  15. Delivery, 2026-10-02 (script): written as a 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV with industry INFO tags and a bext chunk and no encoder signature. The audio is bit-exact with the trimmed file, and the delivered file is the one measured here. Re-running the balancing, match, refine and trim scripts on 2026-10-30 reproduced the trimmed files sample for sample.
Table 1. Mastering decisions: each move, what it rests on, and its cost.
MoveBecauseTradeoff
Peaking filter at 82 Hz, +1.5 dB.A -3.8 dB notch at 80 Hz sitting under bumps of +10.8, +8.0 and +7.4 dB at 45, 57 and 63 Hz.
Peaking filter at 640 Hz, -2.0 dB.A hump of +5.0 dB at 640 Hz. The median at 640 Hz went from +3.42 to +2.33 dB.
Peaking filter at 2.8 kHz, +1.2 dB.Without it the master measured presence 0.18 dB below the source, the wrong direction for the brief's 'vocals clear'. With it the vocal ratio rose 1.64 dB and the loudness range went from 7.05 to 7.28 LU.
Low-band saturation at drive 0.8.This source needed +5.9 dB of gain. Drive 2.2 measured a -7.5 dB residual, took the loudness range from 7.25 to 3.45 LU and cost 1.6 dB of sub.Drive 0.8 landed at a -29.5 dB residual and a 0.10 dB sub loss.
Soft clipper at -2.0 dBFS ahead of the limiter. The limiter alone did 5.4 dB of gain reduction for 164 s and took the loudness range from 7.25 to 4.68 LU. With it the limiter peaks at 0.86 dB.A -2.3 dBFS clipper with a 0.8 dB knee was rendered and rejected: it ran 14.4 s instead of 8.9 s for slightly worse ducking.
Head and tail matched to the earlier master. The script's stated job is to impose the earlier master's head and tail music envelope, relative to its body, on each remaster.
Release trim of -1.75 dB, the same on all 11 tracks.Gate A, the label's check that every streaming decode sits at or under -0.5 dBTP. The balanced and matched file overshot it: 1 of its 3 decodes (Opus 128, Vorbis 96, AAC 256) were above the line, the worst at +0.22 dBTP (our re-measurement of 2026-10-30). The script records the instruction of 2026-10-02: "if it needs to be done, then do it".1.75 dB of loudness. The delivered file measures -11.73 LUFS-I.
Left untouched
No width processing; correlation 0.730 to 0.732 (source to chain output), 0.732 in the delivered file. The widest of tracks 1 to 3.
No broadband compressor: a 1.6:1 glue compressor was rendered (7.1 dB of gain reduction, loudness range 7.25 to 4.50 LU) and rejected outright.
No added noise bed, spectral reference matching or codec round trip in the audio path (dither and the head and tail envelope match excepted).
